Documentation of one's life or leaving footprint is both active and passive.One can actively leave their footprint by signing their work and leaving recordings of their achievement. Getting a self-portraiture of oneself so that their decendents can remember the sucess of their ancestor is a good way to communicate between generations.
On the other hand, with the technological advancements, small digital cameras can deceitfully take pictures of others and document the time and the place of the person without their knowing.
Whether it's willingly done or un-willingly done, looking at photographs of the deceased arouse memories and emotions regarding the person and events at that time.
